Aleš and Mojca Klavžar inspire their children to pursue basketball excellence in Slovenia and abroad.

Urban Klavžar, who was born on May 27, 2004, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, has had an amazing basketball career at a very young age.

He made his professional debut for Real Madrid during the 2021–22 season, showing off his skills on one of the biggest basketball stages in the world. His nickname is “The Urban Legend.”

Klavžar signed a three-year deal with Spanish club UCAM Murcia on July 9, 2022. This made him even more of a presence in European basketball.

Then, for the 2023–24 season, the club lent him to Grupo Alega Cantabria CBT of the LEB Oro.

This gave him a lot of time to play and improve his skills. He is currently a guard for the Florida Gators men’s basketball team in the US.

In 2025, Klavžar won the NCAA Championship with the Florida Gators, which was the highest point in college basketball.

This was the first of many great things that will happen in his long and successful career.

He has played for his country in international competitions as well as in college.

He made his debut for the Slovenian national team on November 11, 2022, in a FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification game against Israel.

His quick rise from the youth ranks in Domžale to international competition shows how talented he is and how well his family taught him the game from a young age.

Aleš And Mojca Klavžar Pass Down A Love of Basketball That Defines Their Family Life

Basketball was more than just a sport for Urban Klavžar; it was a way of life.

Aleš Klavžar and Mojca Klavžar, his parents, both played basketball.

Together, they started a family legacy that is very much based on the game.

Urban has talked fondly about his childhood, and people who follow Slovenian basketball know that the Klavžar name is closely linked to the sport in the Domžale area.

Aleš Klavžar was born in Domžale, Slovenia, around 1969. He is still one of the most important people in Slovenian club basketball.

He grew up in a place where basketball was important, and he played youth and junior basketball for KK Helios Domžale, which would later become the family’s home for sports.

His junior team came in second in the old Yugoslav championships, which was a big deal and helped him build a reputation as a good player.

Aleš had a long and successful career at Helios after he stopped playing.

He was both a company executive and a key player in the basketball club. He was on the management board of the company early in his career.

In September 2012, he became president of KK Helios Domžale, which is now called Helios Suns.

He took over from Uroš Slavinec, who had been in the job for almost twenty years.

When Aleš took the job, he promised to keep the club focused on helping young people, keeping the budget stable, and supporting the community, especially since Slovenian sports were having a hard time financially at the time.

Helios Suns is one of Slovenia’s top three basketball clubs and runs one of the country’s best basketball academies, where hundreds of young players train.

Aleš is still a member of the club’s Management Board today, where he works with other leaders to keep its good name.

In an interview in 2021, he talked about his leadership style. He said that good leaders listen, trust their team members, and always put the organization’s long-term goals ahead of short-term gains.

Aleš met his wife, Mojca, through basketball, which is a fitting way for a family so involved in the sport to have met.

He has stressed how important it is for his family to spend time together playing basketball, and he takes his kids to games on the weekends.

But Slovenian news outlets said that he and Mojca had been separated or divorced since at least 2018, when Urban moved to Real Madrid’s youth academy at the age of 14.

Slovenian news outlets have called Mojca Klavžar a “former good basketball player” because she also played basketball when she was younger.

She met Aleš through basketball, and they raised three kids—Nejc, Urban, and Maša—in a home where basketball was always a part of family life.

Urban’s University of Florida athletics biography says that both of his parents played basketball, which shows how they both helped him become a professional athlete.

Mojca stays out of the public eye, and not much is known about her work or what she’s doing now, but it’s clear that she has an effect on Urban.

Urban talked about missing his mother’s and grandmother’s home-cooked meals while playing in the United States after the Florida Gators won the 2025 NCAA Championship.

It was a small but meaningful tribute that showed how important Mojca still is to his sense of home and belonging, even though he is building his life thousands of miles away from Slovenia.

From His Brother’s Shared Jersey Number To His Sister’s Private Support, Family Drives Urban Klavžar Forward

Urban is one of three kids in the Klavžar family. The relationships he has with his brother and sister clearly affect who he is on and off the court.

Nejc Klavžar, Urban’s older brother, was born on March 21, 1999, in Ljubljana. He is also a professional basketball player.

Nejc is a professional basketball player in Slovenia. He stands about 6’2″ tall and plays the point guard position.

He has played for teams like Helios Suns and ECE Triglav Kranj. He also played for Slovenia in FIBA youth tournaments, such as the U16 European Championship Division B (twice), the U18 European Championship in 2017, and the U20 European Championship in 2019.

Urban’s career story has a special place for Nejc. Urban chose jersey number 7 on purpose when he joined the Florida Gators.

This was a tribute to his brother, who wears the same number. The Helios youth system was where both brothers began their basketball careers.

Their father, Aleš, helped shape the club’s direction. The shared jersey number is a visible reminder of the brotherly bond that keeps Urban going on the court.

In Urban’s official University of Florida athletics biography, his sister Maša Klavžar is listed with the rest of the family.

Maša doesn’t have any public records of playing basketball or other sports, unlike her father and brothers.

There isn’t much information about her age, job, or personal life in public records or the news.

This is because she seems to like living away from the public eye.
