Daniel Wayne Dye, who was born on December 4, 2003, in DeLand, Florida, has had a very successful career in American stock car racing at a very young age.
He started racing in the ARCA Menards Series East in 2020 for Ben Kennedy Racing.
He won his first ARCA Menards Series race at Berlin Raceway in just his second start after switching to GMS Racing.
In 2023, he moved up to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and drove the No. 43 Chevrolet Silverado full-time.
He moved to McAnally–Hilgemann Racing in 2024 and got into the playoffs by finishing eighth at Richmond.
He later joined Kaulig Racing for the 2026 season, but NASCAR suspended him indefinitely in March 2026 after he made comments about IndyCar driver David Malukas on a live stream that caused a stir.
Dye is still one of the most talked-about young stars in NASCAR, even though he had a setback.
Daniel Dye’s Parents Built the Foundation For His Racing Success
Daniel Dye owns much of his success to his parents, Randy Dye and Stacy Rumbaugh.
Randy, who used to be a Pro Late Model driver and now runs a business in Daytona Beach, passed on his love of racing to Daniel when he was very young by taking him to quarter midgets at New Smyrna Speedway.
The family’s love of racing goes back even further, to Daniel’s grandfather Bob, who went to the famous 1969 Daytona 500 and passed the torch to Randy.
Randy runs a successful business empire in Daytona Beach outside of the track.
He owns two big car dealerships in the area: Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram and Maserati Alfa Romeo of Daytona.
Together, they employ more than 100 people. He is also the owner and president of Daniel Dye Racing, the team he built around his son’s career.
Randy does a lot of things outside of work. He has been on The NASCAR Foundation’s board of directors since July 2017.
When Daniel was only fourteen years old and lost a cousin to suicide, Randy turned that sadness into action.
In 2018, father and son started the Race to Stop Suicide campaign with The NASCAR Foundation and Halifax Health.
The March to Stop Suicide at Daytona International Speedway every year, awareness stickers on race car hoods, and raising money for behavioral health programs for kids and teens are all ways that the initiative makes a real difference.
Randy has always talked about how important it is to break the stigma around talking about mental health, and by the time he was fifteen, Daniel had raised and given more than $15,000 to Halifax Health’s mental health programs.
The community has praised their work, such as in the 2025 Comcast Community Champion program.
Randy also stays in touch with the larger Daytona Beach community by working with the Daytona Area Chamber of Commerce and other local boards.
Daniel Dye’s mother, Stacy Rumbaugh, is an important part of the family.
Stacy, on the other hand, keeps her life very private and has chosen to stay out of the public eye.
Coverage of NASCAR, racing magazines, and charitable materials don’t often show her on her own, since most of the stories about racing and business have been about the father-son relationship.
